Despite rumors about romance with many male co-stars,Charmaine Sheh says love can wait.
Charmaine Sheh has to work hard to keep her job. Her mum,who lives in US wants her to quit acting.Ironicallyit was Mrs Sheh who her to participate in Miss Hong Kong pageant in 1997.
"She believed i could win the crown,and even went out to get an application form for me," Charmaine,29,chuckles in an interview with 'The Weekly'.
After bagging the second runner-up title,she accepted an acting contract with Television Broadcast Limited.And she hasn't look back since. To date,she's appeared in over 15 TV drama series and three movies.
Charmaine's punishing schedule is, in fact, a constant gripe with Mrs Sheh."It pains her that i'm working so hard.Sheespecially hates the idea of me having to fly in and out of Hong Kong for fliming commitments," says the slender 1.64m tall beauty,who's an only daughter and has two brothers.
PERFFECTING HER CRAFT
For the time being, Charmaine remains one of Hong Kong's most recognisable female faces,thanks to her slew of fiesty heroine roles in production such as Macau Street,Country Spirit and Life Begins At Forty,Lethal Weapons Of Love And Passion,Dance Of Passion,Maiden's Vow opposite establish male leading stars such as singer-actor Julian Cheung,Alex Fong,Gordon Lam,Gallen Lo,Joe Ma and Raymond Lam.
She wants to win an acting award one day,just like her idol Maggie Cheung."I'm hoping for a good script with a strong role, At the same time,I'll be working hard towards improving myself,"says the determined lass. " Some people may say joining the Miss Hong Kong pageant was my shortcut to fame and fortune. But i don't think it's a fair comment."Yes, it gave me a head start,but whether i eventually make it in this industry depends on my attitude and dillidence, Thats why i give me best at work and make it a point to be on time for fliming."
Others may complain about not being able to take it easy,however Charmaine loves the buzz,"i like a fast-paced society like Hong Kong. There are so many things happening here!On somedays,I'm dead beat by the time i'm at home. But i enjoy the sense of satisfaction of a friutful day. So i don't see myself quitting anytime in the near future.
NO TIME TO DATE
Although she's been linked to actors Benny Chan and Joe Ma, Charmaine insists romance isn't a priority now."There's no hurry," she reveals good-naturedly.But she opely shares her idea of the ideal man.
"My Mr Right should have a sense of humor and be ready to share his thhoughts with me," she says ." Communication is very important in relationship because the couple must be able to share joy and woe. If we always keep problems to ourselves,we will definitely end up depressed."
She is also mindful about chilling out away from the set.In fact, her days off are spent indulging in hot water baths and holidaying in countries like theUK. Charmaine, who pursued a three-year hotel management course in Lucerne, Switzerland,before fame came a-calling,says,"Lifes too short,so everyone should try to strike a healthly balance between work and pleasure!
